Service Dogs UK changing lives with Veterans’ Foundation grant

September 21 2021

Service Dogs UK have been able to help more veterans than ever this year - courtesy of a Veterans’ Foundation grant.

The charity provides ex-service personnel with dogs specifically trained to help with key PTSD symptoms such as nightmares, flashbacks and anxiety.

Funding received from the Veterans’ Foundation has enabled Service Dogs UK to open a brand-new Hub in Somerset so that they could start working with veterans from the area.

Garry Botterill, Founder of Service Dogs UK explained: “Without the Veterans’ Foundation grant we could not have established our new Hub so soon and already we are changing lives there!

“We know how effective our programme is, this grant allows us to bring it to more veterans and their families.”

Service Dogs UK are an assistance dog charity that takes specially selected dogs from ‘rescue’ and partners them with veterans from the Armed Forces and Emergency Services who have PTSD.

The charity now have three partnerships thriving on the course and others waiting to start.

Veteran Craig, a beneficiary of one of the dogs, said his experience has been ‘life-changing and lifesaving.’
