Bradford City FC Community Foundation launches veterans’ football project

May 18 2026

The Veterans’ Foundation is supporting Bradford City FC Community Foundation to deliver a new weekly football programme for veterans across Bradford and the wider community.

Called 'The Home Team,' the sessions are open to anyone with experience of serving in the Armed Forces.

Delivered by qualified coaches from the Bradford City FC Community Foundation, the programme will provide a welcoming space for veterans to stay active, build connections and access peer support through the shared experience of football.

Alongside weekly sessions, participants will also be able to access one-to-one mentoring support.

Over the first 12 months of the project, the programme will host eight social events bringing together participants, families and friends to strengthen community connections beyond the pitch.

Ian Ormondroyd, CEO of Bradford City FC Community Foundation, said: “We are proud to launch a project dedicated to supporting veterans in our community.

"As an organisation, we are committed to creating opportunities for people across Bradford and the wider district to connect, improve wellbeing and feel part of something positive.

"The The Home Team will provide a supportive and inclusive environment where veterans can enjoy football, meet others with shared experiences and access meaningful support.”

Jane Gurney, CEO of Veterans’ Foundation, said: “We are delighted to support Bradford City FC Community Foundation in launching The Home Team through our grants programme.

"Community-led projects like this play an important role in supporting the wellbeing of those who have served.

"Creating inclusive spaces where veterans can stay active, build friendships and support one another can make a real difference, and we are proud to back a programme that brings people together through sport and community.”
