It’s an honour to announce that the official charity of a Division 2 football club has received a Veterans’ Foundation grant to help veterans in its community lead a better life.
Foundation 92 is the official charity of Salford City FC and will now be able to impact more veterans across Salford and Greater Manchester thanks to the three-year grant.
The new funding is designed to provide support through three key areas with the first being 'General Wellbeing.’
Veterans will have free access to drop-in sessions, walk & talk sessions, chair-based exersises and a weekly sports programme, promoting physical activity and mental wellbeing.
‘Community Relationships’ forms the second tier of the programme and focuses on building confidence, resilience and teamwork through guest sessions, guest speakers and partnerships with organisations offering wider support services.
The third tier covers ‘Employability & Education Skills' and is designed for veterans furthest removed from the job market.
This will help develop confidence, self-esteem and wellbeing while enhancing opportunities for education and employment.
Foundation 92 fully recognise that leaving the armed forces can be a challenging time for those making the transition into civilian life.
The Veterans’ Foundation funding will also help support Foundation 92’s existing work with the veterans community.
"Every Thursday morning the Union Tavern, which is owned by the Joseph Holt brewery in Manchester, hosts the NAAFI Break, which is a two-hour session offering informal support over coffee and ex-military personnel of all ages,” said Chris McNally, Head of Inclusion at Foundation 92.
“Foundation 92’s NAAFI Break is a place for veterans to meet in a relaxed environment and the Union Tavern offers somewhere for like-minded veterans to have a brew and chat about their experiences.
“Now we have the fantastic opportunity to extend our provision to impact more veterans across Salford and Greater Manchester.”
The three-year partnership with the Veterans’ Foundation ensures sustained, targeted support for veterans, helping them reintegrate into the community, strengthen social connections and improve both physical and mental health outcomes.
Jane Gurney, CEO of the Veterans’ Foundation said: The Veterans’ Foundation is proud to provide a grant to fund this three-year programme with Foundation 92.
“By focusing on wellbeing, community and employability, it will give ex-armed forces personnel vital support to improve their health, strengthen social connections and build the skills and confidence needed to thrive in civilian life."
