Work Place Chaplaincy Scotland will continue to provide ‘hope, healing and acceptance’ to Armed Forces veterans courtesy of a Veterans’ Foundation grant.
The £30,000 award will fund the Veterans Chaplaincy Scotland (VCS) project, a unique service where up to 20 extra volunteer Chaplains will provide pastoral care for military personnel and their families.
These Chaplains will all use their military experience, giving them the ability to ‘speak the language’ of the veterans’ community while understanding the stresses of everyday life outside the services.
“This grant enables Veterans Chaplaincy Scotland to provide spiritual and pastoral care to the veteran community of Scotland,” said Philip Patterson, Programme Coordinator of Veterans Chaplaincy Scotland.
“We support veterans and their families through the changing circumstances of life, looking after the pastoral needs of every generation, and serving those of all faiths and none.”
VCS grew from three to 12 chaplains in 2021 and this year, Work Place Chaplaincy Scotland will seek to grow their geographical base in order to support veterans wherever they are in the country.
“Veterans Chaplaincy Scotland is very thankful to the Veterans’ Foundation for its funding support and to all who continue to provide the funds for projects such as ours. You have enabled us to care for our veterans,” added Philip.
“We thank the trustees of the Veterans’ Foundation for recognising what VCS can provide to those who have served our nation in past generations. This grant ensures that we can continue into 2022 providing professional pastoral care to those in need. Thank you all.”
The grant is one of 50 awarded by the Veterans’ Foundation in the last round of grants, totalling a huge £1.1 million – the first time the Foundation have given a seven-figure sum in a quarter.
It means that the Veterans’ Foundation have now given over £9.1 million in grants to more than 290 UK-based military charities since inception in 2016.
All of the grants are made possible by generous donors and the players of the Veterans’ Lottery, who not only support our veterans in need, but are also in with a chance to win £35,000 every month.
