With two decades of experience leading global organisations across Europe, Asia, and emerging markets, Celia Liu brings strategy, governance, and people-first leadership skills to her role as a new trustee of the Veterans' Foundation.
Tell us about your background and what you bring to the Board.
“I’ve spent nearly 20 years in global leadership roles, most recently as Regional CEO for ISS in Central and Southern Europe and as a member of the Group Executive Committee. I’ve led major transformation programmes, overseen financial discipline, and built inclusive, high-performing cultures in organisations across multiple countries. As a trustee, I bring strategic oversight, governance expertise, and experience in people-first leadership and I look forward to being part of the board that will be leading the Veterans' Foundation to continue its growth, expand its reach and deliver impact where it is need most in the armed forces community.
What drew you to the Veterans' Foundation?
“Early in my career, at G4S, I worked closely with ex-military colleagues and developed a huge respect for the resilience and skills they bring. Joining the Veterans' Foundation gave me the chance to help charities supporting veterans directly and to help shape the governance of an organisation that’s now approaching its 10-year milestone, which is an exciting moment for the team.”
What excites you most about your role as a trustee?
“The Board is inspiring as everyone brings passion, dedication, and diverse skills. It’s incredibly rewarding to be part of a team shaping the next decade of the Foundation’s work.”
Where do you hope to make the biggest difference?
“I’m particularly focused on mental health, reintegration, and supporting older veterans so their service is honoured throughout their lives. I hope my skills in strategic planning, risk management, and leadership will help the Board make decisions that have real, lasting impact.”
Outside work, what keeps you busy?
“I love travelling and exploring different cultures. Scuba diving is a big passion, and I’ve even dived in the Galapagos! I stay active, and I’m a real foodie."
What does supporting veterans mean to you personally?
“As a British-born Asian from a working-class, first-generation family, I recognise that the opportunities I’ve had are built on the sacrifices of others. Supporting veterans is my way of giving back and honouring that contribution.”
Anything people might be surprised to know about you?
“I’ve lived in five different countries outside the UK over the past 20 years, which has shaped how I approach both work and life.”
