How we’re helping the nation stand with veterans

July 21 2026

Ten years ago, our founder, Major General David Shaw CBE, saw remarkable people on the frontline, changing lives for veterans every day. Those organisations had the expertise, the commitment and the determination to help - but too often they were held back by the uncertainty of funding. The Veterans’ Foundation was created to change that.

Today, thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we’ve invested almost £40 million in more than 650 charities and organisations doing vital work in veteran communities across the UK.

Over the next decade, our ambition is to bring that total to more than £200 million - backing the people helping those who serve to recover from injury, find somewhere safe to live, rebuild their lives and know they’re never facing those challenges alone.

It’s an ambitious goal, but we’ve already seen what’s possible when organisations have the funding and confidence to think beyond tomorrow, develop new services and reach more people.

One of the greatest strengths of the Veterans’ Foundation is that we’re able to respond to where the need is greatest. We don’t believe there’s a one-size-fits-all answer. The challenges facing our Armed Forces community are varied, so the organisations supporting them need to be just as diverse.

Our role is to identify where support is making the biggest difference and channel vital funding to the people on the ground who are best placed to deliver it, and be able to show every supporter exactly what their trust has made possible.

Whether that’s helping someone recover from injury, preventing homelessness, supporting families through difficult times or tackling loneliness and isolation, our focus is always the same: making sure help reaches the people who need it most.

Every name added to the Armed Forces Pledge sends a simple but powerful message to our Armed Forces community: we see your sacrifice, we value your service and we stand with you.

Our job is to make sure those words are backed by action.

If you’ve already added your name, thank you. You’ve joined a growing movement of people who believe those who have served our nation should never have to face life’s challenges alone.

If you’d like to do more, I’d invite you to support the Veterans’ Foundation with a regular gift. Your support gives us the confidence to invest for the long term, backing the organisations changing lives every day and helping them reach even more people.

Together, we can make sure that when someone reaches out for help, the right organisation has the people, the funding and the confidence to be there.

Because standing with veterans isn’t just something we say, it’s something we do.
