DIO’s Fab Four take on London Marathon for Veterans’ Foundation

April 23 2026

Four colleagues from the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) will run the 2026 TCS London Marathon in support of the Veterans’ Foundation.

Known as DIO’s Fab Four, the team builds on last year’s solo effort by Katie Pell, once again uniting under the organisation’s #DIOGivingBack initiative. Together, they have already raised nearly £10,000.

Jane Gurney, CEO of the Veterans’ Foundation, said: “It’s fantastic to see a team from the DIO once again taking on the London Marathon… Their commitment makes a real difference, helping us support charities that provide life-changing help to veterans and their families. We’re so grateful and wish them every success.”

Meet DIO’s Fab Four

Alice Ruby – DST Programme Manager “I’m running… because after 16 years in the civil service, I’ve seen how much they support those who’ve served.

I wanted to give something back. Training has been tough… hail, snow, rain, and wind. On the day, I’m looking forward to the atmosphere… I’ve got voice notes for every mile and a playlist to keep me going.”

Sebastian O’Hara – Operations Director SFA “I’m running my first marathon… working at the MOD opened my eyes to the human side, the families and life after service.

Watching the marathon for years, and a close friend who ran it, made this the right time. “26.2 miles is nothing compared to what our armed forces give, but it’s something I can do.

If I can play a small part in supporting those adjusting to life beyond the military, it’s a huge honour.”

Joanna Watts – PJOBS Business Support “As a Veteran, I’m passionate about raising funds… Each donation fuels my determination. I’ve trained for nine months… with self-doubt, pain and even losing a toenail, but also joy and support.

I’m most looking forward to running down The Mall and hugging my family… it will be unforgettable.”

Ryan Austin – Optimisation Business Partner “It’s a huge honour to represent the Veterans’ Foundation… Training together has been empowering.

I’ve run over 2,000 kilometres… it hasn’t been easy, but I feel ready. I’m excited… and most of all, I’m looking forward to crossing the finish line.”
